Maria's eyes👀

KuroroSama42 • 1 year ago

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that stare was freaky... That was so weird.

Oros • 1 year ago

i could be totally wrong, but i think maria has the same thing that our fmc has with the extra magic. iirc when sarasa goes magic ham mode, her eyes look quite close to that, with all the glow effects and all that. either that or maybe sarasa's master helped her with a potion to heal her eyes or somethin idk

Saintess Jest • 1 year ago

Narratively, if that's the case, she may have had her magic sealed and failed to be an alchemist when she was young.
So when Sarasa was told about that happening, they were speaking from experience.

Iris: “I don’t need to be paid
”

Kate: “I’ll take payment!”

Iris: “Uhh
sorry, I let my emotions get the better of me
”

Lol, girl almost forgot that she was in debt for a moment there.

Well, this was a moderately entertaining show. Probably should’ve been titled “The Newbie Alchemist can do Everything” though. :p

lol i like the sound of that title low key but it too short for a fantasy anime ..xD but yh either way i also enjoy this series honestly 8/10 for me.. now to watch bofuri season 2 lol

8000 for labor for what like 30days salary (travel and back). Sarasa handed her family 65m. If we divide that by her labor salary Iris would die of old age before Sarasa ever got back her initial gift (not calling it an investment because that would be far worse than a shark tank investment and shark tank investments are the worst. Laughs in Mr. Wonderful and Mark Cuban).

Quick napkin math here, assuming 8000 was labor for all 3 of them. A yearly salary of approximately 2700 x 12 = 32400 for Iris alone.
32400 x 100yrs = 3,240,000 not close to repaying the 65m gift in her lifetime.

TLDR: Iris family got the biggest bailout in history. Sarasa should have opened a bank with that 65m and offered to payoff Iris's family debt in structured interest payments. She would have made more money loaning her hard money and asking for collateral and becoming the legendary Alchemist loan shark of the Series.

At this point Iris has to pull a witcher move and offer her first born.

Mega-Chad-Type-Hero • 1 year ago

...just teach her about business, and, leverage; also, make her read the equivalent of all of Robert Kiyosaki's books, if it exists in that world, then, apply her knowledge from said financial-education into real-world application. With enough practice/experience, armed with that kind of financial-competence, she should easily be able to more-than-pay-off that amount in less than even a decade.

Not everybody thinks like an entrepreneur/investor though so it is understandable that we do not see many rags-to-riches (after fighting tooth & nail for survival & trying to get ahead in the world) stories in animé...

toapat • 2 months ago

unless Sarasa intervenes im not sure how shes going to get a half elf from Iris and Kate to turn into a hedge witch.

not that Sarasa's Big Book of Alchemy wouldnt have solutions for the problem.

Berstich • 1 year ago

yeah, but its also kinda stupid that they could just go kill another Salamander or something similar and make that much profit again.

No, she just bought Iris's family for 65m and can now collect interest at a reasonable rate of 25bp.

Would be great if this Feed Company decides to make a surprise somewhere before middle of the season. I'm not feeling the dilemma choosing between making your own name with your own shop or continuing her parent's legacy.

Yeah I mean, if I were her I’d set up a portal for instant goods transport to & from her shop
Ahhh, that Feed company doesn’t have an alchemist to take care of that
 I think :/

Mega-Chad-Type-Hero • 1 year ago

I am surprised she doesn't think to set-up something like a high-speed mass-transport/transit-system (something along the lines of Mag-Lev Technology or even better), that can also move passengers (not just goods/cargo/inventory), considering that they won't try to transport themselves via teleportation-circles, due to something about it being only for inanimate-objects, rather than live-beings.

Then she (and her slaves err I mean apprentices) could easily tend to both locations without making her slaves err I mean apprentices feel lonely or like they've been abandoned... probably...

A certain amount of magical energy is needed for the operation of such things and you have to consider material costs on top of finding someone who both has enough power and the training to wield that power properly. Consider how long it took just to build railways back when trains started to become a thing, and how difficult and expensive it was, then consider that her world doesn't even have anything on that level of transport technology already. It's simply beyond what one alchemist who has not even been independent for a year can do.

Mega-Chad-Type-Hero • 1 year ago

Mag-Lev is essentially a sort of free-energy technology so power-supply would be a non-issue (contrary to popular-belief, propulsion-technology is actually quite primitive, but, neither does it seem like most of the world is allowed to know anything about Zero-Point Energy sources or electro-gravitics/electro-magnetic-gravitics/etc), but, yes, the initial leg-work to get it set-up will take some effort.

And the real reason why rail-roads were as expensive as they were in our world is described in a book by author Burt Folsom Jr. who wrote «Myth of the Robber Barons» ...a corruption-free world is capable of pulling these things off very easily, efficiently, and, inexpensively; considering that most of her world's population seemed to be good people, they should have no problem setting it up efficiently, without extreme expense.

The rest I can't add in here yet as the system would otherwise auto-delete everything else of the points that are to be addressed...

Seosamh Wray • 1 year ago

I was just using it as a comparison. My point is that the way their technology is made, it's primarily based around magic and alchemy. The material and labour costs involved make such large scale things not likely to become widespread, with a primary example being the wireless communication tool from several episodes back requiring both a high amount of magical energy to charge it up and some hard to get materials causing it to cost more than most regular households make in a year. Apart from the magic-tool industry and similar sectors that have alchemists easily available the overall level of their technology is somewhere between 130 to 300 years ago if compared with what we have, meaning most won't even have the concept of electromagnetic waves and their manipulation unless they are highly specialised people that are likely already working on exclusive contracts for their world's equivalent of massive conglomerates or state bodies. Also take into account the extra dangerous wildlife such as Hellflame Grizzlies who would have their habitats disturbed by such large scale construction and that Sarasa is an exception, with most regular people (even Gatherers) having trouble dealing with them.

Mega-Chad-Type-Hero • 1 year ago

Okay, I certainly cannot disagree that, the population of that world is depicted as a people who are not necessarily high on the scale for creativity.

On the other hand, that lack of creativity for a world-population would have to be artificial, unless they were forced to live for survival in such a way that made it impossible for them to have any time to analyse/assess for better solutions, something of a plot-hole or lack of knowledge by the author on the nature of how sentient-beings (even semi-sentient) manage to come up with often-creative solutions to any variety of problems (unless they've been indoctrinated into thinking that solutions outside of established systems are impossible).

For illustration-purposes, experiments have been done where food was down a tube, out of the reach of crows (because their beaks wouldn't reach), but, a crow decided to make use of a nearby wire, turning it into a tool with which to use as a sort of «crow-bar» (pun semi-intended), that it then used as a tool in order to be able to retrieve the food... said wire was re-shaped by said crow by the way; the crow actually bent & bent & bent the wire in such a way until it was able to use it specifically to retrieve its reward.

usucdik • 1 year ago

Seems they had and ignored a super convenient solution considering they just freed up a bunch of indentured newbie alchemists from Mr Dilly. Could have easily made it a sister shop with trainees or something, then she would only need to visit occasionally and could share resources.

James Wright • 1 year ago

Where does the Web Novel pick up?

KuroroSama42 • 1 year ago

Yeah, this episode seemed like such a non-issue. She's been doing fine without the Feed business and the Feed business has been going on without her. Whatever ends up happening, she can return to Yok village - whether she becomes the owner of the Feed business or not. Plenty of people are business owners in name only, leaving the work to their employees while they attend other matters.
Well, I guess the anime stayed consistent with it's lackluster plot full of holes... but good nonetheless! I like the characters, setting and events.

Shinmai Renkinjutsushi is brought to you by ENGI, the studio behind Uzaki-chan, Detective is Already Dead, Kancolle Itsuka Ano Umi de, Trapped in a Dating Sim, anf Full Dive RPG.

SOL and CGDCT anime played a part of my being here as an anime fan, some of my first anime I've ever watched are KyoAni's Lucky Star and K-ON. Since then, I've watched a ton of anime falling into SOL and CGDCT, and well.....this show ain't nothing special.

For positives, it's a nice, chill time to turn your brain off for 20 minutes, and on that front, it does its job. The OP by Love Live Nijigasaki star Aguri Onishi was nice, and I liked the ED by Love Live Sunshine star Nanaka Suwa, who also voices Kate. Did I mention I'm a Love Live fan?

For negatives, this show is nothing new. With SOL and CGDCT anime, as long as you have a hook or the characters are interesting, I don't really have much to say. This show has neither.
It doesn't help that this aired the same time as Bocchi the Rock and Do It Yourself, both of which are also CGDCT anime and also 2 of some of the best anime this season. Also, we've had a TON of fantasy anime this fall ranging from Noumin Kanren, Beast Tamer, Kokyuu no Karasu, and Futoku no Guild to name a few, which makes this show hardly stand out to begin with.

Overall, it's not the worst anime I've seen, and this show IS fine, don't get me wrong. It's inoffensive at the end of the day, but I've seen shows like this done better, and frankly, there's better options. You want a CGDCT anime worth your dollar, watch DIY or Bocchi instead.
Final Verdict: 5/10

Management of a Novice Alchemist

In this season, we have Cute Girls Doing DIY Things, Cute Girls Doing Mountaineering Things, Cute Girls(?) And Their Circumstances and Cute Girls Doing Rock Band Things. In the sea of CGDCT, this Cute Girls Doing Alchemy Thing seems to be the weakest of them all.

First, this feels more like a fan-fic of the Alterier series than a legit story of its own. It mostly follows the same formula of the game down to item crafting. Sarasa, the novice alchemist freshly graduated from the Alchemy School where the school tried so hard to hide how powerful she actually is due to its incompetency. She is also an orphan whose merchant parents got killed by bandits. Despite having a quite solid background story, they were barely getting explored; especially the alchemy school's plot element was flat-out dropped where it was introduced -- talking about the wasted material.

The story follows the standard SOL formula where we see Sarasa getting by day-by-day as a novice alchemist manning her own store but that is also forgettable for the most part or just straight-up boring. Since SOL relies heavily on the characters to carry the show, having all casts consist of cardboard characters doesn't help either. Sarasa is a typical OP protagonist who can single-handedly resolve all the conflicts by herself. Lorea is a cute little sister which is just not cute enough to add any value to the show (sorry, but I saw a much cuter this season and her name is Fran). Iris and Kate are useless sidekicks whose role is purely to introduce problems for Sarasa to solve. None of them ever raised themselves above their expectations and that makes all of them forgettable.

They are not bad but just bland.

The show is a very definition of average and hanging the based scoreline by the thread. 5/10 is the most I can give to it.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 year ago

Looks like we both have the same idea on our final verdict! XD

I agree with most if not all points you make, however, purely because it made me watch it till the end, I'd rate it a 5.5/10 rounded up to a 6. a 5 would be a dropped anime, but that's my rating. And this had so much potential T^T it was my most looking forward to anime of this season next to spy x family. yet it was easily overruled by Cute girls DIYing.

Ohms Nuttachai • 1 year ago

I personally can watch 2 or 3 points anime until the end just for the sake of it. 5 is considered pass to me xD

A 2 or 3 didn't even make it to the 3 episode rule. But those are really rare for me lol.

JDC • 1 year ago

I think it covers profit and loss and how to do assertive cutthroat business pretty well. Its a business simulator more than cute girls anime imo.

Ohms Nuttachai • 1 year ago

I'm totally agreed but we didn't have enough of that. The only time the show covered that part was when Sarasa dealt with the dude from another company (sorry, I didn't bother to remember his name). Most of the time, the show just solves the problem by gathering new materials, turning them into products, and gaining profit and that gets old real fast.

LowJack187 • 1 year ago

Remember that at any time your currency can be deemed worthless! Woke = Broke!

wwlaos • 1 year ago

If Kate and her mom had shared more screen time, I'd have given the show another .5... but since we weren't that blessed, I can agree with the 5/10.

Iris was comic relief at best, and not a very good one. Kate at least almost seemed competent and acted as a voice of reason, but was still never allowed to actually contribute anything meaningful (other than having a hot mom). Lorea was a plot convenience so Sarasa didn't have to stand at the counter all the time actually running the shop. Or cook for herself. That way she could go on adventures or hole up in her alchemy basement for days without it affecting her business.

LowJack187 • 1 year ago

If you need me, I'll be over watching cute girls doing naughty things.

Serenity Lithae • 1 year ago

This reads like a creepy basement dweller ranking under aged girls. Kind of fucked up.

Ohms Nuttachai • 1 year ago

How the under aged girls even coming into your argument when I mentioned no such thing is beyond me. I think your mind is more f*ked up if that's the only thing you can think about.
